Severe Weather Warning
for DAMAGING WINDS
For people in parts of Snowy Mountains Forecast District.
Issued at 10:56 pm Sunday, 12 July 2026.
Vigorous northwesterly winds, with possible blizzard conditions, about the alpine region.
Weather Situation: Strong westerly winds have redeveloped over alpine areas, ahead of a series of troughs and cold fronts crossing to the south through to Tuesday morning.
DAMAGING WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts up to 110 km/h are likely over alpine areas above 1900 metres, with BLIZZARDS also possible.
Damaging winds and blizzard conditions are forecast to persist through to early Tuesday morning, although conditions may ease for a period during Monday morning.
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve.
Locations which may be affected include Thredbo Top Station.
Sustained winds of 87 km/h were observed at Thredbo Top Station at 3:00 pm.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
